Lousiedal

A historic farm is being transformed into housing. In order to preserve and highlight the farm’s history, the existing buildings are handled with a conservator’s care. Dwellings and facilities are placed where they fit in. New elements have their roots in a rural building tradition and stand in a thoughtful relation to the larger whole.

The development will be based on organic principles and puts a priority on offering residents the possibility of growing crops as well as working from home or operating a business on site. The project includes a total of 23 dwellings, some in the form of new-built terraced houses, others established in the existing farm buildings. Some of the flats will be established in the former stable and in the farmhouse itself.

The residents will have wide access to communal spaces to be used for work, leisure, crafts or creative pursuits. The inclusion of creative facilities aims to promote and support community-building. Some of the facilities will be open to non-residents. Much of the farmland, not least the park-like garden next to the main building, will also be open to non-residents, which will make the new Louisedal an asset for the wider community of Oxie.

In addition to flexible facilities, the development will have an emphasis on growing crops. The residents should be able to grow and produce their own food based on individual needs and interests. Everyone should be able to grow potatoes, vegetables and herbs. Like a traditional farm, Louisedal will offer residents the possibility of an everyday life with work and other activities close to home.
