Profile

Karlsson/Lauri Arkitekter was founded in 2020. The office aims for an architecture where culture and landscape are allowed to shape innovative and humane solutions. Our work revolves around shaping the configuration and experience of the given site and situation in a way that is durable over time.

Design is the tool that makes the difference. A strong project rests on a balanced design with a positive interaction between the details and the whole, materials and form.

The two partners, Mats Karlsson and Tomas Lauri, previously ran the architecture firm ARKLAB, a highly successful participant in architectural competitions with multiple nominations and wins.

Mats Karlsson graduated from Konstfack (University of Arts, Crafts and Design) and KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm and from University of Art and Design Helsinki in Helsinki. In addition to his architectural practice he is an acclaimed artist who has exhibited widely and completed several public commissions.

Tomas Lauri graduated from KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. He is a prolific speaker and editor, with about a dozen books to his name. Served as the editor-in-chief of Arkitektur, Swedish Review of Architecture.
